Getting to Liverpool by train
- Ad From London
- Ad From Manchester
- Ad From Birmingham
Getting back at night
There is no station at the ground, so getting back means a bus or a downhill walk of under 30 minutes to Sandhills or Kirkdale. Merseyrail does not run all night: the last train from Sandhills towards Liverpool Central leaves at 23:59 Monday to Saturday (Southport line, timetable valid from 18 May 2026) and at 23:58 on Sundays. Buses cover you after that: the Soccerbus runs until 90 minutes after full time and the 927 for 2.5 hours.
Last services
| Mode | Line | From → to | Last service | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Train Mon–Sat | Merseyrail Northern line (Southport to Hunts Cross) | Sandhills → Liverpool Central (via Moorfields, then Liverpool South Parkway and Hunts Cross) | 23:59 | Last train in the Southport-line table; arrives Moorfields 00:03 and Liverpool Central 00:05. The Ormskirk branch also calls at Sandhills; its late Monday–Saturday trains were not readable in the document, so a later train may exist. [source] |
| Train Sun | Merseyrail Northern line (Ormskirk and Headbolt Lane branch) | Sandhills → Liverpool Central | 00:06 | Sunday last train from Sandhills (Kirkdale 00:02), arriving Liverpool Central 00:12. The Southport-line last train on Sunday leaves Sandhills at 23:58. [source] |
| Shuttle | Soccerbus | Anfield → Sandhills station | not published | Runs until 90 minutes after full time. The club gives no frequency. After a 23:00 finish it can run past the last train. [source] |
| Bus | 927 (special post-match service) | St Domingo Road (Valley Sports Bar) → Liverpool city centre (destination not stated by the club) | not published | Departs after the match for 2.5 hours. The club does not publish the route or the frequency; check Merseytravel. [source] |
| Bus | 917 Express | Walton Lane (return buses stacked) → Commutation Row (near Lime Street) | not published | About 15 minutes to the city centre. The club says return buses are stacked on Walton Lane; no last-bus time is published. [source] |
| On foot | On foot | Anfield → Sandhills or Kirkdale station | not published | Under 30 minutes. The club recommends the signposted walking routes. [source] |
Queues at the station
No official queue times are published. The stadium is in a residential area with limited roads, buses run from set points (Walton Lane for the 917, St Domingo Road for the 927) and the Soccerbus is a shuttle to Sandhills station, so expect to queue at each. Going downhill on foot towards Sandhills or Kirkdale is the usual way to skip the bus queue.
If you miss it
Walk to Sandhills or Kirkdale only if a train is still due; otherwise use the 917, the 927 or a licensed taxi, moving away from the ground first. City-centre taxis are the club's suggestion for getting between Lime Street and Anfield. We found no night bus from Anfield in the club's guide.

How a visitor gets a ticket
Ballot
Almost every ticket is for All Red members (Full, Light or Junior) with enough home-match credits. Premier League tickets are sold in two sales (July and November): members with 13 or more credits are guaranteed a ticket, and members with 4 or more can enter a ballot for leftover tickets for Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and the last home game. Tickets returned to the Ticket Exchange are resold to members in Additional Members Sales. The local ballots are only for L postcodes. For a tourist the realistic route is official hospitality.
In England it is a criminal offence to sell or pass on a ticket for a designated football match without the organiser's authorisation (section 166 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994). Tickets from unofficial resellers can be cancelled at the gate. Buy only from the club.

We never link unofficial resellers: tickets bought there are cancelled at the gate, and in the UK reselling football tickets without the club’s authorisation is a criminal offence.

Getting there
Public transport
Anfield has no station. The club's advice is to go by bus, or by Merseyrail to Sandhills and then the Soccerbus; Sandhills and Kirkdale are also under a 30-minute walk from the ground along signposted routes. Allow time: this is a residential area with limited roads.
- 917 Express: from Commutation Row (near Lime Street) to Anfield in about 15 minutes. Return buses are stacked on Walton Lane.
- Merseyrail Northern line to Sandhills, then the Soccerbus to the stadium. It runs from 2 hours before kick-off until 90 minutes after full time.
- Special match-day buses: the 926 starts 3.5 hours before kick-off from Liverpool ONE, and the 927 leaves St Domingo Road (Valley Sports Bar) after the match for 2.5 hours. The 26 (Liverpool ONE), 17 (Queen Square) and 68/168, 14 and 19 stop nearby.
- Walking from the city centre follows signposted routes; the club gives no time. From Sandhills or Kirkdale it is under 30 minutes.

Driving and parking
Don't drive. Anfield has a residents-only parking scheme, enforced on match days, and there is no general paid parking at Stanley Car Park or Utting Avenue. Illegally parked cars are fined and can be removed.
- The club's alternative is park and ride: use the free car parks at regional Merseyrail stations or city-centre buses.
- Stanley Car Park and Utting Avenue only have pre-allocated spaces for disabled supporters and people over 65, arranged through the club's Disability Ticketing Team.

Taxi and ride-hailing apps
Taxis from the city centre to Anfield are the club's suggestion for people arriving at Lime Street. The club publishes no official taxi rank or ride-hailing pick-up point at the stadium.
- Fan guides warn that finding a cab next to the ground after full time is very hard; the usual advice is to walk away from the stadium before looking for one.

Bags and documents
Only small handheld bags up to A5 size (148.5 × 210 mm) are allowed, plus a club-shop clear carrier bag with that day's purchases. Larger bags are only admitted, at the club's discretion, if they hold medication or medical equipment that won't fit in an A5 bag.
- For a medical bag, email the club's Disability Team (disability@liverpoolfc.com) at least 48 hours before the game. All bags get a visual search.
- Not allowed: laptops and tablets, video equipment and large cameras, selfie sticks, drones, umbrellas (small ones are fine), alcohol, glass, cans, cartons, flasks and plastic bottles over 500 ml, tools, knives and laser devices, smoke canisters, fireworks, flares and air horns, musical instruments and loud hailers, and baby buggies. A clear 500 ml plastic bottle with a sealed top is allowed.
- The stadium is cashless: contactless or chip-and-pin payments only. There is no bag storage for visiting fans; the club's pages we could read do not describe storage for other visitors.
Documents: The club's pages we could read state no photo-ID rule. Match tickets are digital, in the phone wallet; some types (such as the local ballots) cannot be forwarded to someone else. Carry your passport and keep your phone charged.
