Airports
LIS Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport — 5 km straight-line · The airport has its own Metro station (Aeroporto, Red line). Ride it to São Sebastião, change to the Blue line and go out to Colégio Militar/Luz. The Metro runs from 06:30 to 01:00, so check the time before a late flight.
Long-distance railLisboa Santa Apolónia · Long-distance trains arrive at Santa Apolónia (and at Oriente). Santa Apolónia is the end of the Blue line, the same line that serves Colégio Militar/Luz, so there is no change. From Oriente, take the Red line to São Sebastião and change to the Blue line.

Getting back at night

A match that ends around 23:00 leaves you about two hours to use the Metro: it closes at 01:00 every day. Colégio Militar/Luz and Alto dos Moinhos are on the Blue line, which runs straight to Baixa-Chiado and Santa Apolónia. Metro de Lisboa has said it tries to reinforce all lines after big matches, but there is no published match-night timetable, so expect a crowded platform.

Match ends at 23:00Walk to Colégio Militar/Luz or Alto dos Moinhos and board the Blue line: the Metro closes at 01:00 and no later train is published, and no match-night extension is announced. The last train from each station is earlier than 01:00 and is not published. Carris night buses (Rede da Madrugada, about 23:30 to 05:35) run from Cais do Sodré; line 202 goes out through Sete Rios and Benfica station, which is not at the stadium door. Trains from Benfica or Sete Rios are the other option; their last times are not published here, so check CP or Google Maps before you leave.

Last services

Metro Blue line Colégio Militar/Luz → Baixa-Chiado / Santa Apolónia not published Metro de Lisboa: opens at 06:30, closes at 01:00 every day, and trains can be boarded until 01:00. The exact last train from this station is not published, so assume it leaves before 01:00. Metro has promised extra service after big matches without giving times. [source]
Metro Blue line Alto dos Moinhos → Baixa-Chiado / Santa Apolónia not published The next station toward the centre; useful if Colégio Militar/Luz is overloaded. Same closing time as the rest of the network (01:00). [source]
Train CP Benfica / Sete Rios → Lisbon centre not published Benfica lists CP trains to Benfica (Sintra line) and Sete Rios as access routes. We could not read a published last-train time for either station. [source]
Night bus 202 Benfica / Sete Rios → Cais do Sodré not published Carris Rede da Madrugada line 202 links Cais do Sodré with Bairro Padre Cruz through Sete Rios and Benfica. Carris says the night network runs from about 23:30 to 05:35; the line's timetable was not readable here. [source]

Queues at the station

Expect long platform queues at Colégio Militar/Luz after the final whistle; Metro de Lisboa has used station closures and extra staff on big-match nights elsewhere in the network. If the queue is long, walking one stop up the line to Alto dos Moinhos is an option.

If you miss it

After 01:00 the Metro is closed: take a taxi or an app ride from outside the closed streets, or wait for the Carris night bus 202 at Benfica or Sete Rios, which heads for Cais do Sodré.

How a visitor gets a ticket

Members first, then general sale

Benfica sells in layers: first Red Pass holders (season-seat holders), then members with fees paid, then Registered Fans, and last the general public. For a recent European night, the public sale excluded the opponent's nationality. Official tickets are in the club's online shop. A tourist can buy once the general sale opens, if seats remain; a derby or Porto match is much harder.

Buy only from Benfica's own shop, its official secondary market or Benfica Viagens. Selling or distributing tickets without authorization can mean up to three years in prison under Portuguese law (Law 39/2009), and tickets are personal: access can be refused if the name does not match.

Official channels only

We never link unofficial resellers: tickets bought there are cancelled at the gate, and in the UK reselling football tickets without the club’s authorisation is a criminal offence.

Getting there

Public transport

Take the Blue line to Colégio Militar/Luz or Alto dos Moinhos; Metro de Lisboa names both as the stations nearest the stadium. Benfica also lists Carris buses 3, 726, 767 and 768 (Estrada da Luz) and 750 (2.ª Circular), and trains to Benfica or Sete Rios stations. Some of these Metro stations lack lifts and escalators.

  1. From the centre, ride the Blue line away from the river: Baixa-Chiado, Restauradores, Avenida, Parque, São Sebastião, Praça de Espanha, Jardim Zoológico, Laranjeiras, Alto dos Moinhos, Colégio Militar/Luz.
  2. Buses: Carris 3, 726, 767 and 768 stop at Estrada da Luz; 750 stops on Avenida Eusébio da Silva Ferreira (2.ª Circular); 101, 128, 142, 163 and 210 stop at Colégio Militar.
  3. By train: CP services to Benfica station (Sintra line) or to Sete Rios, then a bus or a walk.
  4. Benfica's ticket page says entry is allowed until the 75th minute and that bags and people may be searched at the gate, so arrive early.

Driving and parking

Not a good idea on match day. The police ask fans to use public transport and to avoid driving near the ground, and the club page for the stadium gives no parking information. Expect traffic stops and parking checks around the stadium for hours before and after kick-off.

Taxi and ride-hailing apps

Taxis and app rides (Uber and Bolt are licensed operators in Portugal) both work in Lisbon, but nothing official names a pick-up point at the Luz on match days. Roads around the stadium are restricted for hours, so ask the driver to meet you outside the closed streets.

Bags and documents

Bags and people may be searched at the gate. Fireworks, weapons, pyrotechnics and alcohol are banned, and the police advise fans to avoid carrying bags or backpacks at all. Benfica publishes no bag size limit.

Documents: Tickets are personal and non-transferable, and access may be refused if your identity does not match the ticket. Benfica lists the ticket plus the Citizen's Card for match day; as a visitor, carry your passport or national ID.

Where to stay

Area Why
Baixa-Chiado / Restauradores Blue line stations with a direct ride to Colégio Militar/Luz, and the Blue line also reaches Santa Apolónia for long-distance trains.
Avenida / Marquês de Pombal / Parque On the Blue line and the Red-line interchange at São Sebastião is close, which helps if you land at the airport. On big-match days Metro has closed some of these stations for crowd control, so check before you go.
Colégio Militar / Benfica Close enough to walk to the match, so you do not depend on the post-match Metro crush. It is away from the centre, and the Metro closes at 01:00.
