Getting back at night

Back to the centre you have the S3/S9 from Olympiastadion and the U2 from Olympia-Stadion. Neither Hertha nor the stadium publishes a separate after-match timetable or reinforcement. At night the service depends on the day: on Friday-to-Saturday, Saturday-to-Sunday and pre-holiday nights the U-Bahn and S-Bahn run through; from Sunday to Thursday night buses take over after about 01:00 to 01:30.

Match ends at 23:00A match ending at 23:00: walk to the S-Bahn station (200 to 250 m) or the U2 (500 to 870 m) and head to Zoologischer Garten and the centre. Berlin.de says that Monday to Thursday the U-Bahn and S-Bahn run only until 01:00 or 01:30 depending on the line, then night buses take over, while the S-Bahn's own S9 pages mention about 02:00 on weekdays. The two sources differ, so do not count on the later time. On weekend nights the S9 runs every 30 minutes all night and the U2 runs night trains. BVG names the night bus N2 for the U2 route; we could not confirm where it stops at the stadium.

Last services

Train
Mon–Thu
S3 / S9 Olympiastadion → Zoologischer Garten / Friedrichstraße / Alexanderplatz not published Berlin.de: Monday to Thursday the S-Bahn runs only until about 01:00 to 01:30 depending on the line, then night buses; the S-Bahn's S9 pages say every 20 minutes until about 02:00. No exact last departure from Olympiastadion is published. [source]
Train
Fri–Sat
S9 (night service) Olympiastadion → Zoologischer Garten / Friedrichstraße / Alexanderplatz not published every 30 min all night. Continuous service on Friday-to-Saturday, Saturday-to-Sunday and pre-holiday nights. The S3 runs through the night only between Erkner and Ostbahnhof on those nights, so rely on the S9 here. [source]
Metro
Fri–Sat
U2 Olympia-Stadion → Zoologischer Garten / Alexanderplatz / Pankow not published BVG: the U-Bahn runs continuously at weekends; the U2 timetable lists extra night trips on Friday-to-Saturday, Saturday-to-Sunday and pre-holiday nights. No exact last time published. [source]
Night bus
Sun–Thu
N2 Olympia-Stadion area → City centre not published Night buses with the 'N' prefix replace the U-Bahn from Sunday-to-Monday through Thursday-to-Friday nights; BVG's U2 timetable points to the N2. Its exact stops near the stadium were not confirmed. [source]

Queues at the station

Neither Hertha nor the stadium publishes queue times or crowd advice for the return. The S-Bahn exits are the closest to the gates (200 to 250 m) and the U2 is the longer walk (500 to 870 m); the stadium only recommends arriving early because of the bag checks on the way in.

If you miss it

Monday to Thursday after the last S-Bahn or U-Bahn, take a night bus (BVG's N lines) or a taxi. On weekend nights the next S9 or U2 night train follows within about half an hour. Ringbahn works between Bundesplatz and Beusselstraße (October 2026 notice) can affect S-Bahn routings, so check the BVG or S-Bahn app before you go.

How a visitor gets a ticket

Members first, then general sale

Hertha plays in the 2. Bundesliga in 2026-27. For its home games there is a members-only sale first and then a free sale to everyone, up to ten tickets per person; the club's October 2026 ticket notes confirm both phases. That makes it the easiest of the big German grounds for a visitor. The DFB-Pokal final has its own sale run by the DFB, which we did not research.

Buy only from Hertha's ticket shop, hotline or fan shops; tickets are digital. Leaving the stadium and coming back needs an additional ticket.

Official channels only

We never link unofficial resellers: tickets bought there are cancelled at the gate, and in the UK reselling football tickets without the club’s authorisation is a criminal offence.

Getting there

Public transport

Two lines reach the stadium: the S-Bahn S3 or S9 to Olympiastadion (the exits are about 200 to 250 m from the gates) and the U2 to Olympia-Stadion (500 to 870 m on foot). The club and the stadium recommend public transport on event days. Hertha's and the stadium's pages do not say the match ticket doubles as a fare, so buy a BVG/VBB ticket unless your ticket explicitly says otherwise.

  1. S-Bahn S3 or S9 to Olympiastadion. Flatowallee exit to the South Gate is about 200 m (event days only); Trakehner Allee exit to the East Gate is about 250 m. Travel times: Zoologischer Garten 14 min, Friedrichstraße 23 min, Alexanderplatz 26 min, Spandau 7 min.
  2. U2 to Olympia-Stadion: about 500 m to the East Gate and 870 m to the South Gate. Travel times: Zoologischer Garten 13 min, Potsdamer Platz 25 min, Alexanderplatz 36 min, Ruhleben 2 min.
  3. Buses M49 and 218 stop at Flatowallee; 143 and 349 stop at Neu-Westend U-Bahn station, one U2 stop from the stadium.
  4. Gates and fan shop open two hours before kick-off; Hertha recommends arriving early because of thorough bag checks.

Driving and parking

Possible, but the stadium itself recommends public transport on event days. There are public car parks around the stadium (PO3 Olympischer Platz, PO4, PO5 and others), some paid and some free depending on the match, and vehicles over 2.8 tonnes are not allowed in them.

Taxi and ride-hailing apps

Taxis and ride apps work in Berlin, but neither the stadium nor Hertha publishes a taxi stand or a match-day drop-off point on the pages we read. For the return trip the stadium points you to public transport.

Bags and documents

Only bags up to DIN A4 (297 by 210 mm) and no more than 15 cm deep. Larger bags, helmets, power banks and adapters go to the paid bag drop at the East Gate and Coubertinplatz, open from stadium opening until 90 minutes after the final whistle. The stadium's house rules do not allow rucksacks of any kind.

Documents: Neither Hertha's match-day service page nor the stadium's pages mention a photo-ID check for adults. Hertha tickets are digital: set your phone screen to full brightness so the scanners read it.

Where to stay

Area Why
Charlottenburg / Zoologischer Garten Zoologischer Garten is 14 minutes from Olympiastadion on the S-Bahn and 13 on the U2, with both lines running at weekends through the night.
Neu-Westend / Westend Next to the stadium: Neu-Westend is one U2 stop away and the walk is short, so you avoid the crowd at the station.
Mitte / Alexanderplatz The S-Bahn takes 26 minutes from Alexanderplatz and 23 from Friedrichstraße, and you are near most sights. On weeknights check the last connection before a 23:00 finish.
