Getting back at night

The last M5 train from San Siro Stadio leaves at 00:00 every day, and ATM publishes no match-night extension. Two M5 stations near the ground (Segesta, San Siro Ippodromo) are closed on police orders as the match ends. After the metro closes there is no night bus replacing M5: walk to Lotto for the NM1 night bus (which replaces M1) or trolleybus 90/91.

Match ends at 23:00Evening Serie A games often kick off at 20:45 (the October 2026 derby did), so the final whistle usually comes before 23:00; even at 23:00 you have about an hour. Use San Siro Stadio (M5) or Lotto (M5 and M1, 15 minutes' walk); Segesta and Ippodromo close at the end of the match. M5's last train leaves San Siro Stadio at 00:00 and Lotto at 00:04, reaching Garibaldi FS at about 00:14. Trams 16 and trolleybuses 90/91 get extra vehicles on match days. Leave a margin: ATM warns that Lotto can get very crowded as fans leave.

ATM warns that Lotto can be very crowded when fans leave and that the M1–M5 corridor may be closed for public order. Staff are on hand at Lotto and San Siro Stadio. Paying by contactless card at the turnstile avoids the ticket-machine queue.

If you miss it

There is no night bus on the M5 route. Walk 15 minutes to Lotto and take the NM1 (replaces M1 towards Cadorna and the centre) or trolleybus 90/91; or book a taxi on 02 7777 / the Milano In Taxi app.

How a visitor gets a ticket

Members first, then general sale

Two clubs, two ticket offices, same pattern: season-ticket holders and members go first (AC Milan: season ticket, Milan Club, CRN Card; Inter: FULL/PLUS season tickets and Inter Club), then the general sale opens online to anyone if seats remain. Every ticket carries a name and you need ID at the gate. For derbies and big matches name changes may be blocked, and the authorities can restrict sales to residents of the away team's province (for some matches Inter requires its Siamo Noi card).

Name changes: AC Milan did not allow them for the Derby (31 October 2026) or for Milan–Sunderland. Inter sells BASE tickets with one paid name change and PLUS tickets with one included, both subject to club or police restrictions. A ticket in someone else's name, bought outside these channels, will not get you through the ID check.

Official channels only

We never link unofficial resellers: tickets bought there are cancelled at the gate, and in the UK reselling football tickets without the club’s authorisation is a criminal offence.

Getting there

Public transport

Metro M5 (lilac) ends at San Siro Stadio, next to the ground; M1 (red) to Lotto is the other option, 15 minutes' walk away. Tram 16 also stops at San Siro Stadio M5. Since 2026/27 the new-stadium building site has changed the entrances, so the best line depends on your sector.

  1. Orange, Blue and Red sectors: M5 to the San Siro Stadio terminus, or tram 16 to Stadio Meazza.
  2. Orange, Green and Red sectors: M1 to Lotto, then walk (about 15 minutes).
  3. Check the entrance printed on your ticket. It is usually a recommendation, but entrance 2 (Secondo Verde), entrance 3 (Terzo Verde) and 15 bis (away fans, Terzo Blu) are mandatory. Entrances 7 to 10 no longer exist and the pedestrian route along Via dei Piccolomini is closed.
  4. You can pay the metro with a contactless card or phone at the turnstiles, so you skip the ticket-machine queue.

Driving and parking

Leave the car. The streets next to the stadium are for residents only (unauthorised cars are fined and towed), and the new-stadium building site has cut the number of parking spaces, which will keep falling during the season.

Taxi and ride-hailing apps

Milan's taxis are white and do not pick up passengers in the street: book one through the city's Milano In Taxi app, the free single number 02 7777, or go to a taxi rank.

Bags and documents

Stewards search everyone at the pre-filter gates, metal detectors included. Helmets, pushchairs, trolleys and suitcases, large umbrellas and professional cameras are not allowed. The ground regulations set no backpack size.

Documents: Bring a valid photo ID (passport or national ID card): you must show it with your ticket at the pre-filter gates, where stewards check that the name on the ticket matches the person using it. Tickets are personal; they can only change hands through the club's official name-change procedure.

Where to stay

Area Why
Porta Garibaldi / Isola M5 runs straight from Garibaldi FS to San Siro Stadio with no change, and Porta Garibaldi is a long-distance rail station.
Milano Centrale Main rail station and the airport-bus hub; one change (M2 to Garibaldi FS, then M5). After midnight the N25/26 night bus links Centrale with Cadorna.
Cadorna / Conciliazione (M1) M1 goes to Lotto without a change, and these are the stops of the NM1 and N25/26 night buses if you miss the metro. Cadorna is also the Malpensa Express terminus.
Tre Torri / CityLife (M5) A few M5 stops from San Siro Stadio, so you are home well before the last train at 00:00.
