Airports
DTM Dortmund Airport — 11 km straight-line · The AirportExpress bus runs non-stop to Dortmund Hbf in about 25 minutes (separate ticket, not part of the VRR fare, so your match ticket does not cover it); from Hbf take the U45 to Stadion.
DUS Düsseldorf Airport — 53 km straight-line · SkyTrain (7 minutes) from the terminal to Düsseldorf Flughafen station, then a regional or long-distance train to Dortmund Hbf (RE 1, RE 6, RE 11, S1 and ICE services run that way). BVB puts the airport 63 km from the stadium.
Long-distance railDortmund Hbf · Main station for long-distance trains. From Hbf, the U45 light rail goes straight to the Stadion stop, and regional trains stop at Dortmund Signal-Iduna-Park station next to the ground. On foot it is about 3 km (30–40 minutes).

Getting back at night

The U45 back to Dortmund Hbf is reinforced until 90 minutes after the final whistle, so a midweek match ending around 23:00 is covered. Your match ticket is valid for the trip home until 03:00 the next day. Expect crowding: BVB warns that platform and train capacity is especially limited at Signal-Iduna-Park station.

Match ends at 23:00Match ends at 23:00 (Champions League kick-offs are 21:00): walk to the Stadion stop and take the U45 to Hauptbahnhof. It runs at least every 5 minutes for 90 minutes after the final whistle, so until about 00:30; BVB also says evening trams run every 15 minutes until around 00:30, and no later departure is published. Regional trains from Signal-Iduna-Park station are an option, but queues there are long. Dortmund's NachtExpress night buses only run on Friday and Saturday nights and before public holidays, so on a Tuesday or Wednesday there is no night-bus safety net: do not dawdle. The Hbf is also 3 km away on foot (30–40 minutes).

Queues at the station

BVB asks fans to be patient on the way back: capacity on platforms and in trains is limited, particularly at Signal-Iduna-Park station, and you should allow plenty of time. Car parks in the event zone also have long exit waits.

If you miss it

Taxi from the Wittekindstraße rank (the road outside the stadium stays closed for about two hours), or walk the 3 km to Dortmund Hbf (30–40 minutes). From the centre, NachtExpress buses leave Reinoldikirche on Friday and Saturday nights only.

How a visitor gets a ticket

In practice members only

In practice, Bundesliga home tickets go to club members only: for the autumn 2026 league matches BVB held a members' presale and no general sale at all. Whether non-members get any tickets is decided match by match; some cup and Champions League games had a general sale 'while tickets last'. A tourist's realistic routes are joining the club (membership applications are online; the season-ticket waiting list is closed), the official BVB resale market, BVB's own ticket-and-hotel Adrenalin-Trips, or VIP hospitality.

BVB sells home tickets only through its online ticket shop and Adrenalin-Trips, never through third parties, and says fans with fake tickets are turned away every match day. The official resale opens once a match is sold out, closes 2.5 hours before kick-off, is capped at face value plus a service fee, and is members-only when the match was. Commercial resale is banned by the ticket terms.

Official channels only

We never link unofficial resellers: tickets bought there are cancelled at the gate, and in the UK reselling football tickets without the club’s authorisation is a criminal offence.

Getting there

Public transport

Your BVB match ticket doubles as a public transport ticket on match day: one trip there and one back, on buses, trams and local trains (2nd class) anywhere in North Rhine-Westphalia. The main line is the U45 from Dortmund Hbf to Stadion. Print@home and other digital tickets do not count as a fare: get the free DSW21 ticket at kombiticket.dsw21.de with your ticket's barcode.

  1. At Dortmund Hbf, fans are sent through the north entrance to the U-Bahn platform; take the U45 (towards Westfalenhallen) to the Stadion stop.
  2. The U45 runs at least every 5 minutes between Hauptbahnhof and Stadion from about three hours before kick-off.
  3. Alternatives: U42 to Theodor-Fliedner-Heim or U46 to Westfalenhallen, both a short walk from the stadium.
  4. By train: regional trains from Hbf to Dortmund Signal-Iduna-Park station (RB 52, RB 53, RB 59). Check DB Navigator on the day for special trains and engineering works.
  5. Gates open 2.5 hours before kick-off; BVB strongly recommends being inside 1.5 hours before to avoid long queues.

Driving and parking

Possible but slow. The car parks around the stadium (over 10,000 paid spaces) only take cars with a parking permit bought online in advance, and Strobelallee is closed for several hours around the match.

Taxi and ride-hailing apps

Taxis and app rides both work in Dortmund. Uber has operated in Dortmund since June 2024 (UberX, Uber Green, Uber Taxi) and the city also names Bolt among the ride apps. On match days the official taxi point is the Wittekindstraße taxi rank.

Bags and documents

Bags up to A4 size and no more than 15 cm deep only. Bigger bags can be left at a few drop-off points, but space is limited; BVB recommends not bringing a bag at all.

Documents: BVB does not state a general photo-ID check for adults at the gates. Children up to six can sit on an adult's lap with a child counting card from the clearing points; they must be present with proof of age (ID or birth certificate). From age 14, young people may attend without a parent.

Where to stay

Area Why
Dortmund city centre / Hauptbahnhof The U45 runs straight from Hbf to the Stadion stop and is reinforced until 90 minutes after the match; long-distance trains and the airport bus also start here.
Westfalenhallen Walking distance to the stadium (U46 Westfalenhallen stop), so no queue for the tram home. Hotels fill up when a trade fair or concert coincides at the Westfalenhallen.
Bochum / Essen / Düsseldorf The match ticket covers local trains across North Rhine-Westphalia, and these cities are on direct regional lines to Dortmund Hbf. After a 23:00 finish, check the last connection before you go.
